We’ve seen a lot of Catherine McNeil lately. One of Australia’s top models, she’s a regular on international catwalks and just recently flew in to Sydney to headline the David Jones collection launch, along with fellow successful international exports Abbey-Lee Kershaw, Nicole Trunfio and Alexandra Agoston. She also features in the new Bond’s summer campaign with the likes of Michael Clarke. If that isn’t enough to show you her star quality, she now graces the cover of Vogue Australia’s current September issue.

With the glamour of the 1950′s as inspiration, McNeil shows off her sexy and feminine side with a mix of tartan, leopard print and leather.

While I’m not quite brave enough to don some of the outfits showcased, I am convinced of the cross earrings she wears throughout the editorial. I might have to settle wearing one in each ear though!

Known for her cheekbones and smile, this girl has to be my all time favourite model, not only because she is absolutely stunning but also because she’s Asian and has walked in countless fashion shows including Victoria Secret, Chanel, Alexander Wang, and Christian Dior (to name a few!). I’ve been following her for quite some time now and she is definitely a star in the making! This goes to show that beauty is definitely not limited to one look and Liu shows this by making a name for herself on a worldwide level, and this is another reason why I truly admire her.

romantic getaway.

Last weekend, I gave up city life and a night at Metros for a 3 day getaway with my boyfriend in Margaret River. I was looking forward to having a nice and relaxing weekend that would definitely involve a tipple or two, or in my case a few too many (which resulted in the worse headache of my life) and eating lots of amazing foods.

Day 1

We arrived there on a Friday afternoon and decided to check out a few wineries, the first was Fermoy – a small, quaint little winery which takes its name from the town of Fermoy in Ireland. A little celeb side note, one of their wines which was the 2005 Fermoy Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was even served at Prince Frederik and Mary’s wedding. I thought that was pretty impressive!

If you’re ever in Margaret River, make sure you have dinner at Wino’s. The food there is amazing! The standout dishes was the sweet potato gnocchi and the manjimup truffles it was divine and I couldn’t get enough.

Lastly, the most important course of all – dessert! These were called ‘balls of joy’ and for good reason too.

Day 2

Drinking wine first thing in the morning and continuing throughout the day never turns out well, which I had learnt the hard way despite been warned by Michael several times. I definitely paid for it by the afternoon and had to waste precious hours in Margaret River to sleep it off.

A few of my favourite wineries that we visited that day included:

Cape Mentelle Vineyard – Michael tasting the red wines.

Graylyn Estate – has a lovely vineyard and view and it was here that I bought a bottle of their Rose which smelt like one of my fav. fruits – guavas.

Xanadu – had lunch here, the food was really yummy, but I’m not sure if it’s because we were really hungry or that the portions were tiny as.

Voyager Estate – (me looking happy pre-headache) biggest winery that we visited, had a beautiful garden & amazing wine too!

After a whole day of pure wasteoiding and wine tasting, we headed to dinner at Must. The entree’s on this menu was exceptional and included our favourite things such as this chicken liver parfait and the must charcuterie plate and to quote Michael “Best entree ever!”

And as if we didn’t have enough to drink that day…

The wine we ordered was the 2009 Marchand and Burch “Gibraltar Rock” Pinot Noir ($95) which is already starting to come through nicely despite it’s youth. Abundant red cherry fruit, musk and meaty notes on the palate it finishes with long, spicy tannins and a spot of oak. Elegant stuff.. would have been even better if matched with the confit duck leg on the menu! – Michael Tedj

Day 3

After the day I had previously, I didn’t want to make the same mistake again so I volunteered to drive so that I didn’t overindulge in the wine. We finally made it to the Chocolate Factory, here I went nuts buying too much overpriced chocolates, but it was all too hard to resist especially when it came so perfectly packaged in little wine glasses and heart shaped boxes. All worth it though!

After a few more wineries, we decided to stop off at the last one which was Hay Shed Hill to have lunch, before the long drive home.

After only 3 days in Margaret River, I had fallen in love with the place and have decided that one day I could possibly live here. I told Andi about this and her reply was “Really? But it’s quiet right? You could be a country bumpkin? They don’t sell Chanel down there, you know that right?” That snapped me back to reality. I guess my dream of owning a eco-friendly house complete with a vegie garden in Margaret River will have to wait till I’m at least 50.

I’ve had trouble sleeping ever since I watched Inception last Tuesday. This will be written down as a movie that “my life would have been better if I hadn’t watched”. Don’t get me wrong, it is a good movie. In fact, I appreciate why people love it. My friend, who refers to himself as Big D, has remarked in the past that it is obvious I get too involved when watching a movie or tv. Hence my love of romantic comedies and having a strict ‘True Blood is for daytime only’ policy. But I digress. In my restlessness last night, I got to thinking of all the things I love (in order to soothe me into sleep), which is why I’ve compiled a list of my top ten…

1. Romantic comedies. Anything with the Jennifers – Aniston, Lopez or Garner, take your pick! I technically know they are bad, but what can I say, give me mindless, soppy love stories anyday.

2. Coffee from Epic. The name says it all. Their Belgian Couverture Hot Chocolate is second to none and the only thing I dislike about this lovely little expresso bar in West Perth is that they are closed on the weekend.

3. Pizza from Little Caesars. Fettucini on a pizza? Sure, why not. Baked upside down lemon cheese cake dessert pizza? Like! Dominoes is dead to me.

4. Cotton boyfriend tees. Who knew I could be so comfortable in public?

5. Leederville. It is the home of so many loves. Greens & Co and their floaty lantern globes. Urban Records. The Garden. $2 hot dogs at midnight. Very excited to find out what will take the place of Cafe Villa.

6. Margaret River Chocolate Factory milk buds. They remind me of the choc buds you used to be able to buy from the “tuckshop” in primary school. 10 for 5 cents? Oh my.

7. Hamish & Andy podcasts. Revolutionaries. Visionaries. Whatever you call them, they unearthed the musical talents of Frank Stallone, which is no small biccies.

8. My family and friends. They say you can’t choose your family, but I wouldn’t want to. Apparently you can choose your friends, and I think I’ve made good choices.

9. Alexa Chung. Sorry Andrew, this is in no particular order of importance I swear.

10. My boyfriend Andrew. For his love and support in everything I do, for making me laugh and for being himself.

dark ballet.

When I think of ballet, baby pink always comes to mind. It’s pretty, with ribbons and bows. It’s beautiful, with it’s graceful movements and flowing tutus. That’s why I’m extremely excited to watch Natalie Portman’s new movie ‘Black Swan’. Not your average chick flick, it’s a psychological thriller following Portman’s character Nina, the typical prim and proper ballerina, who scores a the lead gig in the production Swan Lake. Enter Mila Kunis’s mysterious ballerina character, a few twists and turns by film director Darren Aronofsky of the “Wrestler” fame, a lesbian side-plot and you’ve got yourself one interesting movie (that you could probably even drag your boyfriend to! thank you, lesbian side-plot)

With the movie set to open the Venice Film Festival in September, they have released a few sneak preview shots below. Make-up and costumes are guaranteed to be a visual feast…

This book is amazing, if just for the beautiful photography alone. If the quality of picture is worth a thousand words, this would be one very long book. The term “gypset” was coined by journalist Julia Chaplin, quite simply ‘gypsy’ + ‘jet set’. The book explores the luxurious lifestyle led by the creative group of artists, musicians, fashion designers and bon vivants who effortlessly fuse together the freedom of gypsy life and the glamour and sophistication of modern jetsetters. It offers a peek into their luxe lifestyle which left me dreaming of balmy nights, Morrocan beaches and a free existence.

Needless to say, this inspired us to create some Gypset inspired jewellery pieces of our own.

While glancing around the dinner table at a family get together, I was filled with a sense of love and belonging. In a world full of time-strapped, overworked and ambitious people, it’s easy to forget the truly important things – taking time out to spend time with your loved ones.

I think the worst thing that most people will suffer through in their lifetime is the loss of a family member. A worthy cause that undertakes invaluable work is the Compassionate Friends of WA charity. They give support and information to anyone who has lost a family member or friend. It’s a place for people to chat and work through their grieving period. Providing support services to those who are recently bereaved, they aim to assist in the positive resolution of grief. Offering friendship and understanding to grieving families, their symbol of hope is the butterfly.

Those crazy kids at Chanel. How do they manage to make us want everything they do? I’d sum it up as a clear case of jedi-mind tricks at work. If Chanel were a muso, storybox. would definitely be their groupies. Running hot from the huge success of their jade and particuliere nail polish, they seem to be on the money with the hottest nail trends. Their latest, the turquoise shade (named Nouvelle Vague) debuted in their Cruise Collection, is definitely the new it-polish of the moment.
